May is Missing Persons Awareness Month

Share

Hi everyone! It’s been a while, but I’m back now with a new series. In Michigan (where I live) May is Missing Persons Awareness Month. To stick with this theme, we’re going to take a look at an interesting instance of true crime media – the music video for Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. Both the original music video and a cover of the song in honor of its 25th anniversary feature actual missing persons cases of children and teenagers. The exposure to the cases led to dozens of them being resolved – some kids were returned home safely, but others were unfortunately found deceased. If you want to read more about the impact of the video on these cases, this SPIN Magazine article is a good source.
For this series, we’re going to look at nine cases featured in the original video, pulled from this People article. We have already covered the case of Christopher Kerze and the case of Aundria Bowman has recently been resolved, so we will take a look at the remaining nine cases throughout May.
